Merry Christmas

Hi all,
things are going well, we celebrated christmas and spent most of Boxing day in bed resting. Roanna's turn for being sick on Christmas Day, since the last two seasons I was down and out with various illness. We had the inlaws over for dinner, I made a lasagne, which was very rich and creamy, the Doctor today (Roanna's regular visit) said it might have been to rich for her, she did not feel very well at all on Christmas morning, or it could been the week of different restaurants and party nibbles. We are not entirely to sure, though she was 100% on Boxing day, which was a sigh of relief for us, there were a few worse things going around right now and we were a bit unsure if it was one of those bugs.
Aside from that, Christmas dinner was quite nice, everyone was quite spoiled and gifts were plentiful. We have a tree (and some boxes in the spare room) with gifts from friends and family, plus a nice display of Christmas cards as well. ( I actually took some pics but as usual have not uploaded them yet). We also heard from family and friends from over the city to over the water from Bermuda, which is always nice.
Right now we are finishing up packing, for an early start tomorrow morning to Saskatoon, a few days with the Grandparents, then a couple of days in Regina to visit Roanna's Aunt and Uncle (plus the visiting nieces), then back to the Grandparents for a couple more days, then back to Calgary. So it is off to Work.

Everyone have a good New Years Eve, and remember any resolutions about not drinking again made on New Year's Day, probably doesn't count.....

Happy New Year!!!!! WE hope you have a great 2007!!!!!

Saturday Night

Hi all,

Back from the last christmas party for the year, kinda tuckered out now, since 99% of the shopping has been done we are now just cruising until the big day.
We went over to Mark and Aprils an hour early, to help them with the party stuff, setting the plates of food and such. Each year has been different with more and more babys and kids showing up, next year will be our turn I guess.......
Other than that, not much else has been happening, we were treated to dinner last night by Trish & Jeff as a thank you for taking care of thier pets at the of summer, this year, we came back to here for some drinks and playing on the xbox for a bit, Roanna & Trish play some cribbage for a bit.
Anyhoo, I guess for some BIG news, today marks the day where I actually felt the baby move, which was very cool, sorta like a very big pulse to me, but still very cool, I actually felt it again about 20 minutes later, so that is pretty cool.

Tomorrow we have the in laws over for dinner, then off to visit Tyna and her girls, so there may be an update, or not, depends if anything big happens, have a great Christmas Eve everyone, in case I don't get on tomorrow.

Thursday Day

Hi all,

Just sitting at home enjoying the warm weather, in fact after this I think I might sit outside for a bit and get some sun, it is that warm and sunny outside.
Maxine is walking around the house, or she was, I think she hopped back into bed for her 3 o'clock snooze....
Not much today, popped out for a wander around, Roanna comes home then we are off to the theatre to see that Bond movie. Roanna wants to do some shopping as well get some more tops for herself.
Well aside from that, this weekend should be a bit hectic as well, with parties and dinners to go to, plus a bit of visiting friends and family, and getting ready to go to Saskatoon. I think I finally decided to make a pasta dish for Christmas eve, we have the in-laws over for a dinner (traditionally untraditonal food, hence the pasta dish) then drop them off at home and go visit my friend Tyna and her family (she is doing a Christmas eve dinner, so we will pop over a bit later.) I actually bumped into her yesterday at Wal-Mart, she was taking care of her neices and nephews for a few days, plus her kids, so there was a total of 5 kids of various ages and Tyna. So I gave her a hand and obviously gave the kids something to focus on while she was looking for what she had to get. It was quite funny, as I told Roanna, you could see us walking down the aisle, well actually blocking down the aisle, and you could see people look at me, then look at the kids then look at Tyna, then repeat the cycle. I kinda wanted to assure them (they are not all ours!!!) Then after that a quick Sushi dinner, and off to home to wrap some more gifts.

Now, hopefully I shall remember to bring the ol' camera with us this Christmas so I can get some photos, like I said earlier, no snow, so I ain't gonna even bother with taking photo's outside, well maybe I'll do some house light photo's. Gotta break out the tripod to do that, some of the houses have been pretty lit up, you know how it goes, though I think in our area, no one house is, I guess I should saw, Newsworthy, you know, they type you have to put on sunglasses to see...

Anyhoo, everyone have a great day, I'll be posting up to we leave for Saskatoon.

Tuesday Tests

Hi all,
Well the day is almost over, I finished my First Aid / CPR course, and now have the certificates, Starting the first week of January, I do the EMR (this is the other medical requirement needed even BEFORE you put it the Calgary Fire Dept application). I think some people are supprised that they (the CFD) even went this route, though getting into a short course has proven impossible, a couple of months and it will be completed, nothing I have not done before or gone over.....

I have been officially out of work for one week now, and all I can say is, Man and I tired, it has been going none stop with driving, having to be at places for certain times, etc....
Least last week I got to go to Eragon (won tickets), this week we are gonna see the new Bond movie, we have a couple of passes that we forgot about, and since they were a gift, we better use them....

Not much else going on, Christmas in Calgary is supposed to be Brown, I think they say there isn't even a CHANCE of snow... right now it is plus 8 C. Which is chilly, but still a nice respite from the cold weather we have been having. Nights are still a bit chilly though, outside at least, our apt. has been warm for quite some time, no matter if we turn the thermastat down, it never seems cool down..... Ah, well could be worse and freezing our butts off.

Tonight we are off to dinner with Debbie and Curtis, we decided on Smugglers, this is one of the places that most Calgarians will recomend to get good prime rib, and they have a fairly good sized salad bar. Tomorrow, I am due in for nothing, probalby tidy up the house a bit, get the floor vacumed, throw out a few things. A bit of spring cleaning, while we have some sort of spring outside the door.

Roanna is doing well, lotsa kicking going on, (though I haven't felt anything yet), it is hard to believe that there is like just under 4 months to go now, soon, we are gonna have to do some baby item shopping!! How exciting.!.!.!.!

Any hoo, everyone have a great day.

Apple Martini's

Hi all,
We have been back from Banff for a couple of hours now, thought I would update the blog. We had a nice time in Banff, got in about 700 p.m., and went to the KEG for a light dinner, then hopped in the pool and hot tub for a little bit.
Saturday morning was an early start and down to downtown Banff, to do a little shopping and walking around, but when the temperature is -7C you don't walk around outside for long, we picked up some gifts and items for ourselves. When I was trying on a coat, the clerk asked me if I was from Bermuda, since I was wearing my Goslings Black Seal T-shirt. So we ended up talking about Bermuda, since he worked there back in the mid-eighties... That is two people who have worked in Bermuda in about three weeks....

After shopping it was back to the hotel room for a nap, then freshen up, change clothes and down to the lobby to met everyone. We bussed down to Saltlick, the same restaurant we ate at last year, and had quick cocktails, then upstairs for a very good meal.
After dinner it was back down to the lounge to have some more cocktails, and of course this leads to the title of the blog, the discovery of Apple Martini's by me....

Back on the bus at eleven and back in the hotel to jump into bed. It was a very nice night for us and we had a great time.

Unfortunately I forgot the camera back at home, since I left it charging on the camera dock, so no pics of anything this year. But here is a photo from last year just to show you where we were.

Monday is back to work for Roanna, and back to class for me for two days to get my CPR certification. Any hoo hope everyone had a great weekend as well.

Thursday Update

Hi all,
Lots been happening this week, I have finished up work (on Tuesday) I had a job interview at another warehouse then next day. Basically all I have to do is get my security clearance and the job is mine, apparently this is a requirement. Debbie (my friend from Bermuda) works for Forzani (they deal in sports clothes) so it is mainly unloading trucks, inventory, and packing up orders for stores. The pay is slightly more than what I made at Costco, the hours are friendlier, and it is monday to friday. Unfortunately it again part-time, but the hours are flexible, so I can make the call for the hours, which is great since it means I can drop off Roanna and go to work, and pick her up after work.
It also allows me to go to class, which I have now signed up for, next monday I do the require CPR course, then in January I do the EMR course, unfortunately no one seems to be teaching this course on a short term, so I have to do thursdays and weekends for the next 2 1/2 months (plus home computer work....).
Aside from that, Roanna is still doing well, we are excited that we will be going to Banff tomorrow, and are looking forward to a nice break for the weekend.

Anyhoo, everyone have a good weekend.

Saturday Night

Well, we are just getting ready to swing into party mode right now. We have Roanna's Mom's Christmas party tonight, a retirement party tommorow, dinner with friends mid week. Then on Friday we are off to Banff and return on Sunday, April & Mark's Christmas Party on the 23rd, Family get together for Ian's non-Christmas dinner (probably home made pizza), then the big Day.
Somewhere between that we have to try to fit in work and sleep as well......
At least we are at about 90% done for shopping for gifts, the majority of the Christmas cards have gone out.....
Any hoo, we are doing well, Roanna has finally decided that she is not having gas, but is actually feeling the baby "do it's thing" in there. She was a bit worried, but since this is her first kid, she was a bit unsure on what the feeling was supposed to be like. Anyhoo she has decided that is in baby movements.
I haven't felt anything yet, but it is still a bit early for that, since I don't know what to feel for.

Hope that everyone else is doing well this holiday, Cheers and all that.

Friday Night

Hi all,
the weather is finally gotten a bit warmer, we are still in the double digits minuses, -10, but after - 40 it seems like summer. It is sorta like the gas prices, even though we were paying 60 cents last year, 88 cents seems like a better number since in went as high as 120 cents.
So we can still freeze our butts off, it just takes a little longer......

I fixed the PC that went boom last weekend, cleaned out all the dust while I was in there as well, so wasn't to much of a problem, just had to replace the power supply. Today was I was wandering around doing some more shopping for christmas. Picking up wrap and tags and such, stopped off at the cat hospital to pick up some anti-flaking lotion for Maxine, she tends to flake during the winter, so hopefully this will help her. We have been using a humidifier this winter, and boy does it make a difference. Maxine tends to sleep in our room, and it seems to have helped her as well.

Tomorrow I am off to work, they moved me to the book section, still lifting and grabbing, but at least it is not so heavy as when I was in the seasonal. Time to go for another job. Speaking of jobs the Calgary fire dept, finally is accepting applications, so time to fill out the paperwork (sadly I wasn't expecting this until January, but shouldn't take to long to fill out everything).

We are doing well, right now just watching the Flames play hockey (right now they are down 1), then off to bed, it is back to an early day tomorrow.

Take care

Ian
