Monday Evening

HI all,

We went to the health clinic for an appointment that the nurse made, we got GREAT advice for breastfeeding, and by the time we left, the consultant was very happy. Elizabeth was weighed, and she was 8lbs 11 oz, and has been averaging 2 1/2 oz a day now. She is latching on and feeding well, so we don't have to bottle feed her for a bit. Though we will keep an eye on it. After the appointment we went shopping with her at the grocery store next door from us, to pick up some fruits and veggies, with no problems.
Gotta go now
Everyone take care

Monday Morning

HI all,

Well yesterday we had our first outing, Ian took Elizabeth to visit Tyna, and then her grandparents. It all went swimminingly. Popped her in the car seat and off we went. We spent a few hours at Grandma's and Grandpa's while Ian washed baby clothes, then packed back up and came home with Grandma and a laundry basket full of clean baby clothes.
Today we are off for another visit to see a nurse, later in the afternoon, and the rest of the day just switching out feeding and resting. Elizabeth's appetite has increase a lot, and so is her pooping and peeing.
At Tyna's
At Grandma's and Grandpa's
Well gotta go, thanks to everyone.

Saturday Morning

Hi all,

Taking turns has been great, it is quite funny what an extra hour or two of sleep does for you. Elizabeth has been getting better, sleeping longer, eating more, we were quite supprised, she was supposed to be eating about 60 ml of breast milk, she seemed to bearly finish a bottle yesterday. Last night she goes though 90 ml which made us very happy.
Also she has been gaining weight now. I'll list the weights:

Hospital birth: 8 lbs 8 oz
left hospital: 7lbs 11 oz
Thursday morning: 7lbs 15 oz
Yesterday at noon: 8lbs 3 oz

So we seem to back hitting all the marks we are supposed to look for. Monday we head off to a clinic, for some more breastfeeding tips from a consultant. Elizabeth latches on, but just won't stay on for very long, or sometimes not at all. At least though she is getting the breast milk as she needs it.

Roanna is sleeping well, she took out Elizabeth this morning so I was able to get an extra shift of sleep. I am not to tired now, but we are all going to go down after the next feeding.

Tomorrow the plan is to take some laundry to the Grandparents, hopefully, Elizabeth will come with me, and Roanna can have a couple of shifts by herself in bed sleeping. We will have mild so she can feed at the house. Yesterday on the trip to the doctors, we feed her, she sleep, to the doctors at the doctors, up for the examination, and back to sleep for the trip home. She seems to nod off in the carrier anyway.

Talk to everone later.

Quick update

Hi again all,

Quick update here is a picture from the hospital that Ernie took at the hospital.

Oh and we got the doctors appointment tomorrow, for the first visit.

Enjoy

Thursday Night

Hi all
well in an hour and a half, Elizabeth and Roanna will have been home for 24 hours. Not much sleep, lotsa feeding. Today Madeline came by to help with looking after and tidying up, I went out to get some more baby supplies and some foodstuffs, we had some tasty sandwiches that Madeline made, and then was visited by the Nurse, who came and talked to us and get vitals from Roanna and Elizabeth.
Good news for everyone as all is well, Elizabeth even managed to gain some weight now, she left the hospital at 7lbs 11 ounces, and weighed in at 7lbs 15 ounces 15 hours later. Roanna is expressing like crazy and producing milk, so we threw away the formula, and are now feeding her the breast milk via a bottle. The Nurse has left us a feeding schedual, so we are feeding her at 2 hour intervals. We also got more help on the breast feeding, and it was found that Roanna is engorged right now, (pumping every three hours trying to get a softer feeding spot) and Elizabeth apparently is not using her tonge correctly, apparently some kids tend to suck tounges in the womb, when they come out and attempt to latch on, they don't use thier tounges correctly to stimulate the breast and get the milk they need.

Hopefully by tomorrow we will be able to get a handle on all this. Lastly, since we are talking baby stuff, Elizabeth had her poo now, we have been waiting for over a day for her to have one, so that makes us a bit more happier. It is one of the things they look for when you are breastfeeding your baby poos & pees.

I shall try to rectify the photo updates, just need a bit of time to figure out what to do, busy schedual and all that.

Between the 7 o'clock feeding, the changing, and baking chicken for dinner (since I was up and Roanna had Elizabeth). Free time is now a thing of the past........

Everyone have a great day. Thanks for all the calls, e-mails and support, and we appologize in advance if we cannot return any calls for a bit.

Tuesday Night

Hi all
Everyone is doing well, Roanna is up and walking about and was able to take a shower this evening. Elizabeth is doing very well, little sleeping, little nursing, little crying, everything that a newborn does. I have taken more pics but unfortunately my computer has a problem loading Windows right now, and that has the camera hook up to it, so nothing today.

Roanna may try to come home tomorrow, it depends on how she feels, deffinately by Thursday, so I take the car seat in with me just in case.

I'm off to bed now, have a good night everyone

Thanks to everyone for the calls the e-mails and the support.

After Midnight

Hi all,
well it is after midnight, I got home just before 12. Stupidly, I forgot our camera back home, so no new pictures yet. Elizabeth has been sleeping a bit, feeding, gotten tested for the usual baby tests (she passed with flying colors, and took them in stride as well). Everything else has been pretty normal and she has been feeding quite well, with just a few hicups.
Roanna was up and walking around at 7, and at 1030 tonight, a bit shakey but doing better each time. Alot of her color has come back now, and she is feeling better and better, when we checked in we had a room mate, they were checked out later in the day. When I left they had not filled the room yet, so I think Roanna is going to have a quiet night. Elizabeth was taken to the nursery, so Roanna could just catch a bit of sleep between feedings.
Tomorrow, Madaline is going to come over for a few hours, we signed her up as a support person, so her hours to visit can be extended by quite a bit. Though at this hospital, only the grandparents and the siblings are allowed to visit directly. You can take the bassenet to them on the floors waiting room.

Anyhoo I am going to go to bed now, I'll drop a line and post some more tommorrow, gotta go play with Maxine for a few minutes she has been couped up all day.

Well I guess I was wrong about being sent back

Hi all,
I guess everyone has heard the news by now. Yes I was wrong, the waters broke, but we were not sent back home after an examination.
We got to the hospital at 7 and at 856 little Elizabeth made her appearence, we both had been zipped along to 3 differnt rooms in the space of an hour and a 1/2. The Doctor thought it was best to deliver by ceserian, hence the reason for such a quick arrival of us to the hospital and the arrival of Elizabeth.

Roanna is doing fine now, and has recovered very quickly from the procedure, since she had a cesarean she will be in the hospital for the next two days, Wednesday may be the earliest

Madaline & Ernie (the grandparents) have already been by for a visit.

Well I am back to making a few more phone calls, shower up and head back to the hospital, they kick me out at nine.

So Stats for you. Elizabeth V. Foggo, Girl, 8lbs 8oz, 20.4 inchs. Born 8:56 a.m. on April 23rd, 2007.

Heres some photos.

Take care all,

Ian, Roanna & Elizabeth

Were off to the races

well, Roanna's water broke about 15 mins ago, we are getting ready to head off to the hospital. More likely to be sent home after an examination, but who knows, she thinks she is having contractions, but at this time not doubled over and can still talk. So it is more likely started now, all ready to go.

See you all later.

Sunday Afternoon

Hi all,
not much happening as usually, today we drove to the Farmers market with Roanna's Mom. Wandered around for about an hours, sampling foods, in the we walked out with a blueberry & peacan pound cake loaf.
We stopped off at Chinook, for some lunch, and wandered around the mall a bit as well before picking up some shopping and coming home.
Tomorrow morning we are back to the doctors, for the last visit, Tuesday is an ultrasound, then and Friday is another ultrasound if needed, then off to the hospital for Saturday.
Will keep everyone posted, tonight is the Flames playoff game, hopefully they play better than yesterday afternoon. The game is at 7 our time, so Roanna is in bed having a nap.

hope everyone had a great weekend,

Friday Afternoon

Hi all,
Not much going on, still waiting, been snowing quite a bit all morning, luckily it has been melting quite a bit as well, so it isn't to high.
Other than that, yep, you guess it, still waiting. Apparently this kid is trying to be "fashionably late"....

Morning update

Okay, it is about 30 mins after my post.
We have a little something happening now, the very first stage.
But since labour can be up to a week away, it may be a while, so stay tuned.
As usually I'll keep everyone updated

Ian

Wednesday Morning

Hi all,
Sorry I did not update yesterday, no news, nothing happening right now with Roanna.
It is still trying to figure out if it is winter or spring yet, we were out on the balcony for about 30 minutes yesterday, it was quite nice, until the sun went behind the clouds, then it got really cold.
Asside from that, we watched the Flames game last night, also kept a close eye on Maxine, since she seemed to be extra batty last night. Poor kat.
Well, seems like more waiting, I'll drop a line if anything happens.

Monday Afternoon

Hi all,

Well apparently the baby is settled in, we went to the doctors this morning, no news, so we have an appointment for next week for another visit.
The baby (the computer figures from the ultrasound, is 3.6), so from tomorrow, we have 1 week plus four days to wait to see if Roanna goes into birth naturally.
So next week we have an ultrasound again (within the first seven days from tomorrow) the doctors visit, and still if nothing an ultrasound again on the 27th. Then the 28th, they will induce if needed, hopefully it doesn't come to that, there is a greater chance of a C-section if they induce, than if Roanna goes into birth naturally.

So lots of resting for the next while I guess. We did pizza last night, & root beer, tonight we do pasta. Then start tackling the rest of the old wive's tales.

Anyhoo, i'll keep everyone posted, have a great week.

Sunday Morning

Hi all,
Had a nice dinner last night with friends at a greek restaurant, luckily as we went in, we found out that we had coupons for a free main course, so we used them.
The birthday boys were there, and most of the group went downtown to have a drink at the new Flames Central bar that they opened up. It was a big theater called the Palace theatre years ago, got converted to a night club, and now has been converted into a "entertainment sports complex". They showed it opening last weekend, apparently it has $2 millions in lighting alone inside the building. The only other thing of note, it is owned by the Calgary Flames.

Trish came home with us and the girls folded baby clothes, and talked wedding stuff (Trish is getting married, Roanna is the bridesmaid). It was Jeff and his buddys birthday this and next week, Jeff is Trish's fiance.

Well I guess by me talking about a hockey complex, everyone probably knows, nothing has happened yet, Roanna is feeling some "things", but none of the signs that go with the starting of the whole labour process.

We'll keep you updated.

Everyone have a great rest of the weekend,

Ian & Roanna

Friday Update

Hi all,
well it is early evening now, we have been to and back from the ultrasound. Watched the kid practice breating, watched the kid stick it's tonge out (quite a few times). The estimated weight was 3.2 KG, which puts it over 8 lbs, but the error can be as far up to 1 lbs off.
They faxed the info to the Doctors, and Monday we go in anyway, with or with out a baby.

Tomorrow, we are going to a birthday party at a restaurant just around the corner, if the big event isn't happening. I guess every day now can be suddenly changed.

Anyhoo, everyone have a great weekend

Thursday Night update

Hi all,

No panic, just updating and saying thanks to everyone who has left a note.
We are fine, went to Roanna's Mom to visit her cousin from the states and Roanna's Aunt, they were in for a couple of hours. Just finished up our tax stuff and gonna stuff them in the envelopes and pass them on to the tax people.

Anyhoo, just thought I would keep everyone up to date. We have a list of contacts, so I will be calling people, and posting here as soon as I get home, hopefully I remember to take some photos...

Take care,

Ian & Roanna

Thursday Update

HI all,
Not much going on right now, we are just doing our taxes, and trying to figure out a way to pay the least to the taxman.....
Other than that, no news, (though you think doing taxes all day would do something!!!).
Tomorrow we are off to an appointment at the Foothills for a more accurate ultrasound, then Monday, we have another Doctors appointment. Tuesday is the big day, but as everyone knows we Foggo's can be stuborn......... I'll say no more.
The weather is warming up, though I think it is a bit to early to take off the snow tires yet, one more month I would asssume, it has been snowing the last couple of nights, it just isn't cold enough when it hits the ground.

Roanna is doing fine, and like I said, no news to tell yet.

Everyone take care.

Monday Update

Well as promised here is the update,

Not to much to say, we went to the doctors, Roanna is doing well, she is losing weight now, and the baby is still fine. Still big for its time, but still no problem, the heart was beating at 132 beats per minute now, and the baby is still head down. Butt on Roanna's right side, we have an ultrasound on Friday, they are going to do a bit more of a looksee, Monday we are back to the doctors for another check up.
Unless of course, the big event happens, the check up is on the 16th the day before the due date.
So all good news there.

We went for a coffee and bumped into one of Roanna's old friends, he and his wife are pregnant as well, except they are having twin boys... Their first kid(s) as well. We were chatting for a bit.
They haven't done thier class yet, apparently they have a special "twins" class that parents go to, then at week 38 the kids come out...

Asside from that, still tidying up the house, getting last minute things, Roanna wants to check out the "hospital suitcase" for anything we may have missed.

Talk to you all later.

Easter Sunday

Hello all,

Happy Easter!!

Just having a cup of coffee, and getting the side dish ready for Easter dinner later in the day. Roanna is still in bed, and Maxine is lurking around the house in her usual way.
We are off to dinner with the family, and aside from that, not much else going on, been tidying for the last few days, throwing things out, making room, moving things around, getting under things and dusting and what not.
We also found, inflated and washed out exercise ball, apparently they are great for women having contractions, we were told that the hospital has them, but they might be in use. So we figured we will just take ours with us, if we don't use it, i'll just let the air out and put it in the suitcase.
So we are 9 days away from the big event, hopefully sooner, Roanna says it feels like the baby has run out of room...
We are off to the doctors tomorrow, so there will be another post with any new info.
Our bags are packed, we just have to pick up a couple of items, and remember to pack things like the camera.
We have made our list of contacts, and if anyone is not contacted (at a decent time in the day, Roanna is stressing!), there will be a post with the usual newborn pics on the blog as soon as I get home. We have phone numbers & e-mails addresses to contact.

Anyhoo, I'll drop a line tomorow,

again Happy Easter,

Ian & Roanna

Tuesday Update

Hi all,

After a busy weekend (again!!) Roanna had to go back for a check up at the Doctors. They got the results from last weeks ultrasound, and the baby is a bit bigger than it is supposed to be for the week. Though apparently it is still within the normal range of baby stats, just in the upper normal range. The weight of the baby is 7 lbs, and apparently the head is the size it is supposed to be, so apparenlty the extra weight is somewhere else on the baby. The dock figures it is in the abdomen, which is good, since it is soft and flexable for the upcoming birth.

So next week Roanna goes back, and another measurement happens, if the baby hits 8 lbs, or Roanna goes over 40 weeks, then a closer check will happen, and other measures will be looked at, inducement I think.

Not as bad as it sounds.

Sunday we helped Roanna's brother move house, yesterday we went shopping with Roanna's brother's ex. at Costco. The weather has been terrible the last two days, moving furniture and boxes in the snow is not on my favorite list.

Lets see, oh, on Friday I shaved my head, so I am back to being bald, I figured I would get rid of the hair, cause I didn't want to if after the baby was born, keep the confusion down a bit. Also the hair was making me look fat.......

Any hoo, this was as long as it got, and here is a photo of Roanna at week 37.

Anyhoo, everyone have a great week.
We are gonna be moving furniture and tidying up for the next two weeks or until the baby, which ever comes first.
